The Adams Report by JC Adams
July 24 - 30, 2006
Our chapped, chafing "Adams Report by JC Adams" staff is on holiday. It's just as well because it's too goddamned hot to do anything productive. Thus the return of Gay Porn Mailbag! This latest edition features updates on Caleb Carter, Chad Hunt, Gus Mattox, Jason Ridge, director Wash West and what-the-hell-is-going-on with all the studio exclusive swapping (some would say "poaching" but we're too kind for that...) Carry on!
Q: A couple months ago you mentioned Caleb Carter was being filmed by MTV for an episode of their Real Life show. Is that still happening? When will it air?
JCA: I asked Mr. Carter for an update and he suspects MTV will air his episode in late October, although that could certainly change. Check your local listings. When we spoke, Mr. Carter was down on the whole experience because they'd filmed a rather wild night of debauchery (something about getting plastered and brutalizing stuffed animals). I had to wonder why he was so grouchy about MTV's presence during his night of drunken revelry? "Because they filmed it!" he yelped. Ah, cheers. (He was kidding...sorta).
Q: Whatever happened to that play you said Gus Mattox was doing? Did he really quit porn?
JCA: Yes, he really did retire. That's not to say Mr. Mattox won't ever change his mind, but BIG RIG for Buckshot Productions is apparently his last film. The stage play you mentioned is called Some Men and it was written by none other than Terrence McNally. Yes, before you ask, the producers knew all about Mr. Mattox's blue movie career and it was a non-issue with them. Some Men recently concluded an out-of-town run in Philadelphia and I rang up Mr. Mattox to get his post-mortem.
Overall it "ended up being a fantastic experience," he says. "It was one of the best companies, in terms of talent and personalities, I have ever worked with." His part was a bit different than you might expect. "I worked very hard on it, but in a different way than most of the cast. My primary function in the show was to play the piano. Sometimes I was 'the piano player' in the scene, at a bar for instance, and sometimes I was in some netherworld onstage providing music."
Mr. Mattox says rewrites "came fast and furious and I was kept on my toes like I never have been before. New song titles -- not music, just the titles -- were thrown at me almost daily and I had to incorporate them into the show as requested. My acting part got bigger and bigger and then, when the play ran long, got smaller again. That's showbiz!"
Despite a "mixed" critical response, Mr. Mattox says "the play was very enthusiastically received by audiences. It's coming to [New York City] in the fall, but will basically be a new production. That means none of us in the company know if we'll be going along with it. I hope I get to do the show again to experience reworking something I was involved with from the beginning. And to have a job, of course!" Although he is no longer blogging, Mr. Mattox is online at GusMattox.com.
Q: I remember reading in your column that Wash West's Quinceanera was coming out soon, but I don't remember when.
JCA: Quinceanera was written and directed by Wash Westmoreland (known to GayPornLand as "Wash West") and his partner Richard Glatzer. It won both the audience award and the jury award at this year's Sundance Film Festival, prompting Sony Pictures Classics to pick it up for release August 4th in New York and Los Angeles. The July 23rd New York Times had a short article on the film which touches briefly on Mr. West's porn background. (Marina Pacific's Nick T. Boyias and Avi Raccah are listed as Executive Producers and received their own write-ups in the Los Angeles Times on July 1st and in Daily Variety last January in articles about indie-film financing.) QuinceaneraMovie.com is the official website.
Q: What's going on with all the exclusive switching? I was reading about Bruce Beckham leaving Lucas Entertainment, and all the stuff between Titan Media and Raging Stallion. I can't keep track. Do exclusives really matter anyway?
JCA: Excellent question. Yes, there seems to be an outbreak of cabin fever among the various stables of studio exclusives. Mr. Beckham did indeed leave Lucas Entertainment although he has not signed on with anyone else. Daddylicious Jake Deckard and gorgeous Gallic stud Francois Sagat switched spots between Titan Media (Mr. Deckard, now Mr. Sagat) and Raging Stallion (Mr. Sagat, now Mr. Deckard). Brad Patton and Tom Chase left Falcon and Mr. Patton signed with COLT Studio; Ralph Woods and Pierre Fitch have also left Falcon. Eddie Stone parted ways with Rascal Video and has busily racked up a bunch of flicks for other studios on his own. Needless to say, some of these partings were not pleasant breakups.
As to the second part of your question, yes, an exclusive can serve a studio very well. A top-of-the-line hottie who can't be found anywhere else (think Lukas Ridgeston for Bel Ami) can generate tens of thousands of dollars for his home studio, not to mention oodles of publicity. And in a business that runs on fresh blood, locking up the new guy in town is a time-honored business practice designed to impart a competitive edge over one's rivals, however briefly.
And while we're on the subject, after last week's column was published that contained an update on Chad Hunt's acrimonious publicity war with Lucas Entertainment, studio honcho Michael Lucas contacted me to shed additional light on the situation. He took issue with my referring to him and Mr. Hunt as "bitch-slapping" each other in the press. Mr. Lucas explained that he has taken pains to be fair to Mr. Hunt in his public statements. Fair enough and I'm happy to set the record straight (no pun intended).

Juicy Jason Ridge is on the cover of the upcoming XXX Showcase promoting TRUNKS 2 from Hot House Entertainment. I took one look at beefy, beautiful Mr. Ridge in a teeny, neon-yellow bathing suit and knew it had to be the cover shot. TRUNKS 2 also boasts an ama-aa-azing fuck scene between superhung Brad Patton and the built-for-sex firebrand Matt Cole; it's one of the year's best pairings and should be up for numerous awards next spring. I made sure to include one hellaciously sexy, full-page photograph of Mr. Cole nearly unhinging his jaw to accommodate Mr. Patton's python. Yowza! (And is Matt Cole having a great year or what? His sensual, dirty duo with Benjamin Bradley in Rascal Video's BOOT BOY is a scorcher.) Check out the new issue of "XXX Showcase" on newsstands and in friendly neighborhood porn emporiums everywhere. HotHouse.com is the official studio website, and Mr. Ridge is online at JasonRidge.com.
Porn Star Birthdays for July 24 through July 30: Tony Brocco, Aaron Griffith, Tad Harrison, Angel Leone, Tony Romano (July 24); Mark Baxter, Jacob Hayes, Dick James, Dax Kelly, Leo Lyons, Diego Pastores, Tony Piagi, Pagan Prince (July 25); Vito Marchelli, Steve Maverick, Scott Randsome, Clay Russell, Bryan Williams (July 26); J.C. Carter, Jeremy Daniels, Holden Grey, Brad King, Mike Radcliffe (July 27); Kyle Becker, Jeffrey Dickinson, Fred Goldsmith, Felix Groth, Dillon Press, Tommy Strausser (July 28); Elio Acostas, Brad Davis, Eric Hamilton, Rik Jammer, Sonny Markham, Marc Stone (July 29); Scott Baldwin, Barry Barrett, Cameron Cruise, Lark Larson, Fred Modod, Matt Shane, Alex Stone (July 30).
J.C. Adams has covered the gay adult entertainment industry since 1995, and has served as the editor of "Inside Porn Magazine," "Unzipped Monthly" and the Adam Gay Video Directory. BREAKING INDUSTRY NEWS
AVN.com is reporting today that the FBI visited the offices of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based gay amateur studio Sebastian Sloane Productions to check their 2257 compliance. Owner JJ Ruch had received a call Thursday night and was told to expect the FBI on August 1st, but this morning at 8 a.m. they were knocking on his door.
Mr. Ruch told AVN.com, "They told me [the FBI is] conducting an investigation of all producers who produce any kind of pornographic material and they plan to finish this by December. They also said they've spent two years gathering up information on adult web sites, done [WhoIs.com] searches, and have picked up information by going to [VOD sites] to figure out who is producing videos."
Sebastian Sloane Productions is the second adult entertainment company, although the first gay content provider, to be visited this week by the FBI, following hetero company Diabolic Video this past Monday. Per AVN.com the FBI agents went through Mr. Ruch's "model release documents, his computers, video cameras, masters and even searched his kitchen and living room." He passed the inspection, as did Diabolic Video.
Stay tuned for further developments.

The Adams Report by J.C. Adams
July 17 - 23, 2006
This week in the "Adams Report by JC Adams" we've got bits on Rafael Alencar, Caleb Carter, Jake Deckard and Anthony Mengetti. Plus, Bruce Vilanch and Jeff Stryker go legit, Michael Brandon and John Rutherford pick up some hardware, and Michael Lucas and Chad Hunt are stillbitch-slapping each other at war. And I take on a new gig! Keep reading for all the sizzling scoop...
BITS AND BOBS
Caleb Carter is currently filming a sizable role in the indie gay film Throuple from In the Pink Productions. The awkwardly titled film is billed as a psychological thriller. Mr. Carter has some pics from the shoot and other scoop on his website at MySpace.com/cartersmonster...
Michael Brandon tells me that Raging Stallion Studios is prepping for a big, ten-day shoot in Hawaii at the end of August. Hunkalicious RSS Exclusive Jake Deckard will topline the flick, to be titled LORD OF THE JUNGLE. Tag Adams, Tamas Eszterhazy and Taurus have recently joined the cast. Jump over to RagingStallion.com for further details...
Bootylicious Rafael Alencar (he's hung like a horse, too, but that ass is world class) has formed his own production company. Black Scorpion Films is now in production on their first flicks. RafaelAlencar.com is the stud's official website but at press time it hadn't been updated with news of the new shingle, although BlackScorpionVideo.com is now online…
A little bird tells me that a writer has been calling around trying to find various industryites who've worked with retired porn performer Anthony Mengetti, about whom the writer is penning a memoir. Mr. Mengetti appeared in two dozen films between 1995 and 1998 (plus two that were released in 2001 and 2003, although it's not clear if they were compilations). He worked a lot for Catalina Video and the now-defunct Forum Studios and appeared in such titles as DIRTY WHITE GUYS (All Worlds Video, 1997), HARLEY'S CREW (Catalina, 1998), SMELL OF A MAN (Jet Set, 1997) and THROAT SPANKERS (Catalina, 1998)...
STRYKER & VILANCH TEAM UP
As I exclusively revealed on our website this week, famed funnyman Bruce Vilanch is teaming with industry legend Jeff Stryker for a "sophisticated evening." Come again? Actually, the writer/comedian has penned a stage show titled A Sophisticated Evening with Jeff Stryker with a starring role, natch, for His Largeness. The show, billed as an "erotic comedy," runs August 3rd-20th at the Celebration Theatre in West Hollywood. Stay tuned for details including an interview in next week's column with Mr. Vilanch.
LUCAS & HUNT GO TO WAR
The ongoing battle between porn mogul Michael Lucas and performer Chad Hunt continues to boil over. It seemed as if the two warring porn personalities had smoothed over any differences following a blowup last month during Mr. Lucas' Virgin Megastore appearance when Mr. Hunt took offense at the inference that new Lucas Entertainment Exclusive Ben Andrews was hung thicker and longer than anyone else in the business; Mr. Hunt walked away from his exclusivity contract and initiated a war of words in the press that included Mr. Lucas' throwing together WhoseIsBigger.com, a promotional website for the new film ENCOUNTERS: FLASH POINT in which Mr. Andrews and Chad Hunt double-team newbie Sal in a sizzling peep booth vignette (I've seen the footage and it's very hot). The promo site allowed visitors to vote on whose schlong they felt was bigger and Mr. Andrews won. Ouch.
But all seemed fine a couple weeks ago when Mr. Hunt apparently renegotiated his contract with Lucas Entertainment. However it happened, they kissed and made up. A press release even went out trumpeting their détente and the gay industry breathed a collective sigh of relief. Within hours, however, it all went to shit again. I'm not really sure why or how the peace process fell apart. Chad Hunt announced he would be taping footage for his own company, including his first time as a bottom; Michael Lucas promptly vowed to hold Mr. Hunt to his contract as an exclusive, and the latter threatened to sue. He even posted a plea for legal help online. Lawyers are now rattling their sabers and that's where things stand for now. Go to LucasEntertainment.com and/or LucasBlog.com for additional details.
BRANDON & RUTHERFORD HONORED
Performer-director Michael Brandon and COLT Studio honcho John Rutherford have been honored with Lifetime Achievement awards by the Free Speech Coalition. The hardware was handed out July 15th at the 19th Annual Night of the Stars banquet here in Los Angeles. Two members of the gay side of the business, one actor and one director, are honored every year. It's one of the few times -- in fact, come to think of it, it's the only time -- the gay and straight sides of the porn family come together. And it's all in support of the FSC's ongoing battle to preserve and protect our embattled freedom of speech and expression. Sister Roma of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and Tim Valenti of NakedSword.com emceed the festivities.
Congrats, Messers. Brandon and Rutherford! Both are well-deserved honors. And it sure would've been nice if the FSC had thought to tell anyone in the gay press about it. When we're in the same city, Mr. Brandon and I always get together over a meal to dish all the industry dirt. So imagine my surprise when he called this weekend and I found out he was preparing to attend the FSC awards banquet! Geez, people, you do amazing work but how about a press release next time so we can, y'know, help promote your good deeds? FreeSpeechCoalition.com is the group's official website.
DEPT. OF SELF-PROMOTION
The word went out this past Friday via GAYVN.com and now the news I've been sitting on for a bit can be told: I am the new Director of Production for Studio 2000. Industry vet Scott Masters is retiring from the company. My old pal Chad Donovan has assumed the task of talent development and we kick things off with a shoot in early August. (I'll be seeing the 2007 Adam Gay Video Directory through its publication in December, so no worries about that.) What does that mean for this column? It will continue as I move into my new gig, but stay tuned this summer for some major news about its own evolution...!
Porn Star Birthdays for July 17 through July 23: Damian Ford, Alec Powers, Eric Reese, Eli Santos, Sledge Sawyer (July 17); Rafael Alencar, David Cline, Fredrick Ford, Julian Houston, Mack Kurtis, Ricky Parker, John Sexton, Nick Yeager, Joe Young (July 18); Jay Alexander, Lee Driver, Trace Henson, Tyler Hill, Tony Lee Jones, Shane Rockford, Stonie, Gabriel Suarez (July 19); Rick Davis, Andres Duranza, Federico Johnson, Ollie Kicks, Aaron Osborne, Niko Reeves, Adam Winter (July 20); Miles Andrew, Marcio Pitbull, Adriano Sabroso, B.J. Slater, Lance Williams (July 21); Tony Banderas, Matt Bandero, Thomas Bond, Tony Cruz, Armando Santini; Enrique Velazco (July 22); Tom Adams, Jamie Blade, Dante Franklin, Ian Gabriel, Paul Hanson, Randy Jones, Kyle Reardon, Mark Woods (July 23).

The Adams Report by J.C. Adams
July 10 - 16, 2006
This week in the "Adams Report by JC Adams" we've got bits on the death of Ralph Ginzburg, whose 1963 obscenity conviction set a dangerous legal precedent that stands to this day, and info on the photobooks by daddybear legend Ray Dragon and Asian B&D star Van Darkholme. Plus, Michael Lucas and Chad Hunt are still fighting and we take a sneak peek at some new releases on DVD. Grab your schlong and settle in!
DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS
In last week's column I mistakenly flipped a pair of porn pups and paired Brent Everett with Ralph Woods; Mr. Woods is actually the husband of Pierre Fitch, with whom he appears (separately) in Falcon's BIG DICK CLUB. I have a weird mental block with this information, and in fact very nearly shipped the last Adam Gay Video Directory with the photos for Mr. Everett and Mr. Fitch transposed. Brent Everett is the one who will shoot a film later this month for Rascal Video. Thanks to the several thousand people who wrote in to point out my gaffe…
LUCAS VS. HUNT (AGAIN)
Okay, I'll keep this short and sweet because it's fucking giving me a headache. But the prolific producer-director and his well-endowed discovery are at it again. Constant Readers know about the spat involving new Lucas Entertainment Exclusive Ben Andrews; a couple weeks ago, during an appearance at a New York Virgin Megastore, someone in the audience asked whether Mr. Hunt or Mr. Andrews had the bigger cock. Mr. Lucas immediately answered that it was Ben Andrews, which set off Chad Hunt. He walked away from his exclusivity contract and set off a war of words with Michael Lucas in the press, including this column.
So this week, a press release arrives from Lucas Entertainment announcing that Messrs. Hunt and Lucas had done the kissy-kissy thing and made up. They'd even renegotiated Mr. Hunt's contract with the studio and everything was hunky-dory. However, within hours, it seemed, another press release went out denouncing Mr. Hunt for denouncing Lucas Entertainment -- again! Huh? I'm not exactly sure what happened to cock up their détente. Mr. Hunt intended to shoot new material for his own company until Mr. Lucas threatened to unleash his lawyers to enforce Mr. Hunt's exclusivity contract, and it all became nasty and ugly. Again. Stay tuned for the next chapter.
RIP: RALPH GINZBURG
Per the New York Times, Ralph Ginzburg died this past week. If that name doesn't ring any bells, it should: He's a seminal figure (no pun intended) for porn fans and filmmakers alike. As it read in his New York Times obituary, "Ralph Ginzburg, a taboo-busting editor and publisher who helped set off the sexual revolution in the 1960's with Eros magazine and was imprisoned for sending it through the United States mail in a case decided by the Supreme Court, died yesterday in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. He was 76."
Russell Moore and the late Barry Knight, the writer-producer-director-editors of Delta Video and two of the founders of the gay porn business, spoke often and loudly about the need for the current gay adult filmmakers to be aware of how truly difficult and dangerous it was to make porn in the early days. Ralph Ginzburg's travails put the truth to this.
His obit goes on to note: "Mr. Ginzburg's eventual conviction on the obscenity charge hinged not on the content of his publications but on their promotion. The Supreme Court held that if 'the purveyor's sole emphasis is on the sexually provocative aspects of his publications,' that could justify a finding of obscenity for content that might otherwise be marginally acceptable…"
Mr. Ginzburg wrote an account of this trying period in his life called Castrated: My Eight Months in Prison. Per his obit, "as to why Eros was considered obscene, Mr. Ginzburg wrote in the book, it was a mystery to him. 'Obscenity' or 'pornography' is a crime without definition or victim,' he said. 'It is a bag of smoke used to conceal one's own dislikes with regard to aspects of sex.' "
Ralph Ginzburg led a colorful life and I've barely scratched the surface in this little piece. He's worth studying if you've got any interest in the history of pornography in American culture. What Mr. Ginzburg did wasn't any different than what many other publishers were doing at the time; he depicted nudity and he generally did it in a tasteful way. What was different about Mr. Ginzburg, per the Supreme Court decision, was that he made his magazine seem obscene. That was a major erosion of First Amendment rights; they ruled that it's not whether your product IS obscene but whether you make it SEEM obscene. And this is still the law of the land people! You don't think right-wing Attorney General Alberto Gonzales isn't aware of this ruling? Bush is a lame duck president; what does he have to lose? We can't be complacent, folks.
IN PRINT: DRAGON, DARKHOLME
Recently I wrote about performer Aiden Shaw's new memoir titled My Undoing: Love in the Thick of Sex, Drugs, Pornography and Prostitution (Carroll & Graf) now in stores; check out AidenShaw.com for details. Now we've got an additional pair of books from two of GayPornLand's stalwart members: Performer/director/icon Ray Dragon's Real Men (Bruno Gmunder) and ex-performer Van Darkholme's Male Bondage (Gmunder) Both are photobooks; Mr. Dragon's book explores his typical milieu of rough and burly bearish guys, while the title of Mr. Darkholme's book spells out the theme.
You might think you've seen enough pretty boys trussed up in rope to last you a lifetime (or maybe that's me...?) but Male Bondage goes far beyond bondage-drag to convey the power-play appeal of B&D. Check it out. Van Darkholme is a chiseled and extraordinarily handsome gent, one of the very few Asian models (he's Vietnamese-American) to achieve prominence in the biz, however briefly. And he did it with only a small handful of films: 3 EASY PIECES (Titan Media) and LORDS OF THE LOCKER ROOM (Can-Am Productions) in 2000, and HOUSE OF DETENTION in 2002, also for Can-Am. Plus a handful of lesser-known B&D titles. He's online at VanDarkholme.com and Mr. Dragon can be found at RayDragon.com. Although it's easier to order online, I'd humbly suggest you take a trip to your friendly neighborhood gay bookstore to snag a copy. (In West Hollywood at A Different Light bookstore, you'll first have to knock your way through seventeen stacks of Howard Roffman's The Boys of Bel Ami to find the Dragon and Darkholme books...)
NEW RELEASE DESK
"When is a man a cub and when is he a bear? See if you can figure it out." That's the premise of BEARS & CUBS from prolific studio CyberBears via Arena Entertainment and director Ken Slater. Go to CyberBears.com for more details...
TWIST MY ARM is a new cleverly titled fisting extravaganza from director Chris Ward and Raging Stallion Studios. The flick features RSS Exclusives Taurus and Matthieu Paris with Cristiano, Javier de Cerdo, Chris Neal and Francois Sagat. Mr. Ward claims the de Cerdo/Taurus encounter that opens the picture is "one of the most shocking fisting scenes we've ever filmed!" That's really saying something coming from this particular studio! Go to FistingCentral.com for specifics.
Also from RSS subsidiary line Centurion Pictures is director JD Slater's ALPHA: CENTURION MUSCLE II. The gorgeous Mr. Sagat toplines alongside Lucas di Fubbiano, Danny Mann, Blake Nolan, Leo Rocca and the intriguingly named Xerxes. Centurion is Mr. Slater's pet line and it reflects his particular piggy sensibilities. CenturionPicturesXXX.com is the official website.
Finally this week we've got SPOKES III from Falcon Studios and director Chris Steele. The earlier films -- SPOKES (1983) with Dick Fisk, Leo Ford, Mark Hunter and Lee Ryder in the cast, and SPOKES II: THE GRADUATION (1988) starring Jim Bentley, Race Jensen, Casey Jordan and Eric Manchester -- are at the top of the list of my favorite porn movies, and they're among Falcon's best films, so this sort-of sequel carries on a vivid legacy. Check out FalconStudios.com for all the scoop. Falcon Exclusives Tyler Marks and Derrick Vinyard with then-exclusives Pierre Fitch and Ralph Woods head up a cast of young bucks that includes Jeremy Hall, Dakota Rivers, Ross Stuart, Justin Wells and the very beautiful Mason Wyler, who takes on virtually the whole cast, one after another, in true SPOKES fashion. If you've seen the first flick, you know what I mean...
Porn Star Birthdays for July 10 through July 16: Kyle Chandler, Joel Drake, Kenny, Lyndon Murray (July 10); Shawn Adams, Daniele Castaldo, Rob Clavier, Vic Hall, Giancarlo Laforet, Jake Matthews, Marcio Rosa, Ashton Ryan, A.J. Winters (July 11); Steve Masters, Stone Michaels, Alberto Ventura, David York (July 12); James Bajital, the late Dante, the late Mark DeBoy, Rob Evens, Matt Fuller, Wade Garrett, Tom Jank, Alex Kincaid, Tino Lopez, Miles Rudolpho (July 13); Mike Austin, Peter Balogh, Robert Black, Blue Blake, Chris Collins, Brad Hanson, Billy Herrington, Markie, Aaron Reeves, Tyler Savas, Kurt Summers, Peter Vegvary (July 14); Chris Akin, Peter Logan, Clay Maverick, Peter Michaels, Kevin Reed, Eric Scott (July 15); Flame, Devyn Foster, Dex Harden, Scott Lamber, Bernardo Lima, Josh Longer (July 16).

The Adams Report by J.C. Adams
July 3 - 9, 2006
GayPornLand cleared out for the Fourth of July holidays but that doesn't mean we don't have some gossipy goodness and other newsy items for you this week in the "Adams Report by JC Adams." COLT gets busy, Michael Lucas and Chi Chi LaRue team up to raise money and Marc Schaffel (known to us as ex-porn producer Marc Frederics) takes Michael Jackson to court. Also this week, Bel Ami beauties cavort in a coffee table book and a trio of our boys make indie film cameos: Matthew Rush, Zak Spears and Bret Wolfe. Plus, Brent Everett and none other than Tom Chase have followed Ty Fox back in front of the cameras.
ON THE DOCKET: F. MARC SCHAFFEL
Here's some interesting gossip: Former Michael Jackson associate F. Marc Schaffel's lawsuit against the singer has selected a jury and will go to trial soon. Per a New York Times story, Mr. Schaffel is seeking "$3.8 million for what he claims were unpaid loans and expenses, unpaid salary for a charity record and a share of proceeds from two TV programs produced to repair Jackson's image, damaged by a documentary in which he said he shared his bed in a nonsexual way with children."
As Marc Frederics (sometimes spelled "Fredericks"), he worked fairly steadily in the early 1990s and stayed on the fringes for the next ten years or so. From time to time I've caught wind of his presence behind the scenes. He was primarily known as a producer and his formidable reputation preceded him back in 1995 when I first entered the biz.
There was a short run of films, shot overseas from 1999-2001 and co-directed with Matt Sterling for Huge Video, but apparently he hasn't produced or directed since then (at least not using his old nom-de-porn). Mr. Frederics' early videography includes a trio of flicks starring the peerless Rex Chandler: VIEW TO A THRILL (Video Resource Group, 1990), THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ROD (HIS Video, 1991) and COCKTALES (HIS Video/Jocks, 1992)
None of this is really news to the readers of "The Adams Report" because I've mentioned it here in this space many times; but apart from "Vanity Fair" and some Court TV staff, plus a few other stray mentions, the media has pretty much ignored this this angle. I even spoke to Court TV last year about a documentary they were producing on Mr. Schaffel, but wasn't much help because I've never met him. Stay tuned; if this case isn't settled the sordid saga of Jackson's behind-the-scenes life could explode back onto the front pages.
BRENT IS BACK
After a moderate hiatus, Brent Everett is back in front of the cameras. The porn pup with quite possibly the best, most ripe ass in the Western Hemisphere is set to shoot a film for directrix Chi Chi LaRue's Rascal Video. He and hubby Ralph Woods are still enjoying newlywedded bliss. Both currently appear in Falcon's BIG DICK CLUB (although not together) where the pair were billed as exclusive performers. Apparently that's no longer the case. Check out Channel1Releasing.com and FalconStudios.com for details. [Update: Ralph Woods is married to Pierre Fitch, not Brent Everett.]
LARUE & LUCAS RAISE CASH
Speaking of Ms. LaRue, he and performer-director Michael Lucas cohosted a Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus fundraiser on Tuesday, June 27th. West Hollywood City Councilman (and former mayor) John Duran asked the pair if they would lend some erotic glamour to the event which supports the LAGMC Tour Fund. $25,000 was raised, thus enabling the group to embark on their first-ever South American tour. Ms. LaRue brought along Rascal Exclusives Benjamin Bradley (with Roman Heart), Luca DiCorso, Tyler Riggz, Cole Ryder and newcomer Josh Vaughn. Mr. Lucas also had a camera crew tagging him for a documentary (not an unusual sight in Los Angeles, I must say).
BEL AMI'S IN PRINT
Another photobook—"The Boys of Bel Ami"—immortalizes George Duroy's fabled stable of youthful hotties. This black-and-white hardcover tome is a whopping 228 pages (!) from shutterbug Howard Roffman and publisher Bruno Gmunder (natch). My pals at Fleshbot.com noticed that a selection of pics from the book appear in the current issue of German mag Männer Aktuell if you can get your hands on it. It was shot on location in Capetown in December 2004 during the filming of OUT IN AFRICA. All the usual suspects from the studio's current crop are present: Yves Carradine, Josh Elliot, Tommy Hansen, Brandon Manilow, Marc Vidal, et. al. They're gorgeous young men, no question, but has there ever been a group of porn stars whose every freckle and fart has been documented more than these guys? BelAmiOnline.com is the studio website, Mr. Roffman is at HowardRoffman.com and the book itself is now available in stores.
ONSCREEN: RUSH, SPEARS, WOLFE
Our boys are popping up in a variety of gay-themed independent films this summer. Matthew Rush has a cameo in "Another Gay Movie" opening later this month, while Bret Wolfe appears in "Long-Term Relationship"; they are a lighthearted romp and romantic comedy, respectively. And now Zak Spears has a small but pivotal role in the drama "Forgiving the Franklins" as a football coach who embarks on a passionate affair with a jock on his team. Look for "Another Gay Movie" in theatres; plus all three pictures are making the gay film festival circuit. Oh, and the making-of documentary chronicling Lucas Entertainment's DANGEROUS LIAISONS and its subsequent PR blitz will premiere July 22nd at the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival with a panel moderated by Village Voice columnist Michael Musto.
Check the various official websites for updates: AnotherGayMovie.com for Mr. Rush's film; GuestHouseFilms.com is the production company for Mr. Wolfe's film; ForgivingTheFranklinsTheMovie.com for Mr. Spears' movie and PhillyFests.com for the Philadelphia festival.
COLT STUDIO ROUNDUP
Lucas Entertainment isn't the only company heating up the Virgin Megastore chain. A passel of COLT Exclusives appeared at the Downtown San Francisco Virgin Megastore during Pride weekend: Luke Garrett, Carlo Masi, Gage Weston, Chris Wide and Skye Woods pressed the flesh and signed copies of DUAL: TAKING IT LIKE A MAN. Speaking of COLT Studio and their Buckshot Productions line, the actual "big rig" from BIG RIG was a part of their pride parade float!
But here's the big news: They've lured megahung legend Tom Chase back in front of the cameras. Last I heard Mr. Chase was a Falcon Lifetime Exclusive but I guess that detail has been ironed out. The popular star is still bearded but less burly than he appeared in DEEP SOUTH, PART ONE (Falcon, 2002), and his chest is nicely furred. He's already filmed two scenes for release later this year: He plows musclebound Skye Woods in the first, and the second is a flip-flop fuck with the scorching Carlo Masi. That's only the second time he's bottomed onscreen, following his fantastic, now-legendary CALIFORNIA KINGS (Falcon, 1997) vignette with Mike Branson. All of the scoop is now posted online at COLTstudioblog.blogspot.com.
Porn Star Birthdays for July 3 through July 9: Alex Carrington, Rick Leon, Mocha (July 3); Xavier De Paula, the late Steve Fox, Brett Michaels, Mark O'Neill, Jared Scott, Julian Vincenzo (July 4); Brennan Foster, Max Grand, Kaleb Hayes, Peter Krisztia, Reed Parker, Dave Russell, Andre Savage, Kyle Stevens, Mamo Vallicelli (July 5); Fitch Abel, Jake Hart, Steve Ryder, Vince Siciliano, Tyrone, Wolff (July 6); Richard Becker, Corey Jay, Jirka Kalvoda, Don Kristian, Dean Monroe, Dominic Sinclair, Andreas Stern, Adam Wilde (July 7); Dirk Decker, Brian Hanson, Shane Lacourt, Zach Richards, Chris Sullivan (July 8); Istvan Gulyas, Robert Paul, Jack Potz, Lance Storm (July 9).

The Adams Report by J.C. Adams
June 26 - July 2, 2006
We've got more alphabetical updates from your favorite porn studs this week in the "Adams Report by JC Adams." Ty Fox is coming out of retirement for Blue Blake and doing something he's never done before... Plus, Chad Hunt clashes furiously with Michael Lucas, Tiger Tyson joins a Dream Team, Aiden Shaw publishes a revealing tell-all and John Paulus apologizes to Clay Aiken. What a week! Strap on the water wings and dive into the deep end, boys and girls.
TY FOX
As I revealed on our website this past week, musclebound legend Ty Fox is coming out of retirement. He will return to porn in MUSCLEMEN MOVING CO. 2 for director Blue Blake, who himself is ending a yearlong hiatus from filmmaking. Mr. Fox will also debut as a bottom for newcomer Dakota James.
Both Ty Fox and Mr. James "are competitive bodybuilders," Mr. Blake told me. "They will be competing in two weeks, as a matter of fact." Famed hardbody Mark Slade has also joined the cast. Jokes Mr. Blake, "The movie is full of straight muscle boys fucking each other!"
Ty Fox first appeared on the scene twelve years ago and has made only a handful of films, among them TY ME UP (Catalina Video, 1994), MANHATTAN SKYLINE (HIS Video, 1994), FOX'S LAIR (Studio 2000, 1995) and WHITE HOT (All Worlds Video, 1997). In 1996 he achieved unwelcome notoriety when he was outed as a gay porn performer in the "Washington Post." Mr. Fox later resigned from his teaching position when he learned his school district was planning to fire him.
Mr. Fox returned to XXX in 1997 and filmed FOX TALE (All Worlds), which parodied his outing and the subsequent scandal. In 2001 he made a brief comeback in JET SET MUSCLE (Jet Set Prods.) using the name "J. Steele," but has made no films since then.
"He's happy and healthy and ready to make some great movies," says Blue Blake. "I am absolutely thrilled to be the one to reintroduce Ty to his legions of fans, as well as introduce him to a whole new audience!" MUSCLEMEN MOVING CO. 2 will be distributed later this year by Pacific Sun Entertainment. BlueBlake.com will have all the info and Pacific Sun is online at GayMagix.com.
CHAD HUNT
Mr. Hunt did not have a good week. At press time he had walked away from his association with Lucas Entertainment and was engaged in a press-and-private-email war with director-performer Michael Lucas. Why? Supposedly over whose cock is bigger and thicker -- Mr. Hunt's or new Lucas Entertainment Exclusive Ben Andrews'.
Mr. Andrews and Mr. Hunt were among the performers accompanying Mr. Lucas at his Union Square Virgin Megastore meet-and-greet June 21st when the smackdown occurred. Go to LucasBlog.com for one side of the story and the blog for dragstress Hedda Lettuce at Hedda.com/blog for another version; Ms. Lettuce was part of the Virgin Megastore event. Chad Hunt has released his version of events as well, and it's all given me a bit of a headache.
Basically, someone in the packed audience at the Virgin Megastore event asked who had the bigger cock; Mr. Lucas quickly replied that Ben Andrews was the biggest. That didn't go over well with Chad Hunt and things quickly went downhill from there.
Mr. Hunt released a scorching statement, forwarded to several industryites, in which he doesn't simply burn his bridge with Lucas Entertainment, he blows it to smithereens. "You lost your last real friend in this industry," he declared, "and even many members of your own staff apologized to me for your idiocy on stage. Let's see who wins awards. Let's see who sells more movies and who will be the bigger star in years to come. Michael, you have been jealous of me from day one. I have won more awards than you, have been in more movies, have been a bigger star and have been a constant thorn in your side. You can only hope to be in this industry much longer."
I asked Mr. Lucas for a statement and he responded with one line: "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!" Later, though, he decided to respond in-depth on his blog: "Chad, penis aside, I totally agree with the point you are making. You are much more beautiful than I will ever be, and my dick looks like a pencil compared to yours. When I discovered you back in 2001 and nobody wanted to give you a chance, you praised me for doing so. Your first six movies were with me...and I knew you would be a great star. That's why we kept working together for five years and I just finished working with you...on ENCOUNTERS 3: FLASH POINT. On top of all that, you are an All-American sweetheart and I am a nasty bitch; you've got a point there."
Mr. Lucas then speaks to what he thinks is the real reason for this contretemps: "Dude, be real, this has nothing to do with jealousy, or else I would have tried to sweep you under the carpet after all these years...rather than make you a star...Nope, not jealousy. Instead, I think all of the problems started the day Ben Andrews became my new exclusive."
The PR-savvy mogul has also quickly moved to advantage of the brouhaha with WhoseIsBigger.com, wherein fans can sample a taste of the scene Mr. Hunt and Mr. Andrews filmed for ENCOUNTERS 3: FLASH POINT (actually a threeway costarring newcomer Sal). Naturally, there is also a poll allowing anyone to vote for the guy with the bigger cock; at press time, nearly 1600 over 3500 votes had been cast giving Ben Andrews a big, fat, thick lead over Chad Hunt. Oy.
JOHN PAULUS
Chad Hunt isn't the only Lucas Entertainment Exclusive making news. As I wrote a couple of months ago, John Paulus set up a personal blog devoted entirely to bashing Clay Aiken, with whom he allegedly had bareback sex after meeting the singer online. (He was soon afterwards snapped up by Mr. Lucas and filmed a scene with Wilson Vasquez that appeared in MICHAEL LUCAS' AUDITIONS VOL. 8.) Mr. Paulus went public with his story because he says he felt burned and used by Mr. Aiken. Fine, whatever. I still think setting up the blog was creepy and weird. The story took a darker twist with the venomous hatred spewed at Mr. Paulus from Mr. Aiken's "Claymates," who resented their idol's name being dragged through the mud. The 24/7 barrage of harassment has to be maddening.
Anyway, he has since issued a public apology to Mr. Aiken. On June 16th he wrote, "Today marks the five month anniversary of the story between Clay and me. It's been a long and difficult five months and one which is filled with many regrets." Later on down in the long posting, he says, "Through the course of my life I have had some regrets -- during these tumultuous past five months I have amassed a few more. I regret not being a big enough man to accept the possibility that I was simply someone's one-night stand; I regret telling my story to the tabloids; I regret defying the trust of Clay; I regret hurting him, his family and his fans; I regret that I started a blog that ridiculed him; and I regret letting my vengeance take control of my sensibilities." Read the entire statement at ClayAiken411.blogspot.com. Mr. Paulus is online at JohnPaulus.blogspot.com.
AIDEN SHAW
No new movies to report, but legendary performer/author Aiden Shaw has a new memoir in bookstores. My Undoing (Carroll & Graf) is subtitled "Love in the Thick of Sex, Drugs, Pornography and Prostitution." So I'm guessing it's not a lighthearted romp? It's sitting on my desk waiting to be read and I'll have a more thorough summation soon. In the meantime the hunk is online at AidenShaw.com.
TIGER TYSON
Michael Lucas isn't the only director-performer-mogul in New York City. The Big Apple-based Tiger Tyson's career is heating up in a major way after nearly a decade in the trenches. He has joined the porn-blogging community at TigerTysonBlog.com and earned a prestigious feather for his cap when he was named to the NakedSword.com Dream Team of featured performers. He's currently flacking THE SHOW PART ONE, a co-production between Pitbull Productions and Dark Alley Media. Check out ThugMart.com for specifics.
Porn Star Birthdays for June 26 through July 2: Marcelo Cabral, Gareth Christopher, Joe Landon, Eric Masterson, Casey Morgan, Todd Stevens (June 26); Bobby Brandt, Derek Cameron, Ninja, Nick Romano, Mark Vlady (June 27); Dany Brown, Sean Decker, Richie Fine, Jagger, Thomas Lloyd, Michael Smith, Task, Edwyn Wolf, Justin Woods (June 28); Joshua Adams, Aaron Klein, Jack Sanders, Tony Scalia (June 29); Kyle Brandon, Chance Caldwell, Ace Harden, Kevin Hayden, Ethan Marc, Sky Preston, Luke Scott, Anthony Stone, Chris Young (June 30); Rafael Carreras, Brice Patton, Pietro Rosselli (July 1); Robbie Angel, Kent Burk, Tyler Dirdan, Eric Flower, Hugo Peligro, the late Rocky, Adrian Troy, Chris Yeager (July 2).
