The Adams Report by JC Adams
May 22 - 28, 2006
We have all kinds of goodies in the "Adams Report by JC Adams" this week. Michael Lucas hits the scandal sheets (again!) for allegedly making out with a movie star and Chi Chi LaRue is engaging in dirty deeds. Plus, RuPaul is dueting with one of our boys, Bret Wolfe is acting, Luciano Haas is directing, Jason Hawke and Jeremy Jordan break up and Caleb Carter gets engaged. C'mon, belly up to the bar!
We've also got more coming up on the controversial European Gay Porn Awards. I ran an interview with show producer Marc Cram that riled up a few folks on both sides of the fence. Both supporters and detractors have weighed in. I was going to run something this week, but more heated comments came in right as I was going to press, so that update got pushed to next week. But you won't want to miss it.
LUCAS & EVERETT: K-I-S-S-I-N-G
It wouldn't be a column without some mention of Michael Lucas or his New York-based Lucas Entertainment, would it? Inevitably when I mention the performer-director-mogul in this space a few gripes come over the transom. To which I usually reply, "You get written up in the gossip pages and I'll write about you, too!"
Check out this item from the May 12th edition of the "New York Daily News" scandal sheet "Gatecrasher" by Ben Widdicombe: "Actor Rupert Everett rekindled an old flame on a visit to NYC last week...[he] got his groove back with adult-film-star-cum-producer Michael Lucas, whom he has known since the days when Lucas -- how shall we put this? -- charged by the hour... Says [a] friend, 'Michael's old client list is on par with Heidi Fleiss.' A rep for Lucas confirmed he knew the actor but said they never had a financial relationship. Those darn celebrities get everything for free!"
Well, you know I asked Mr. Lucas about that when he got on the horn with me about some new exclusive or something. (Forget the exclusives! I want the juicy stuff!) He laughed it off. "I've known Rupert Everett for five years," he revealed. "We kissed each other as friends. I am a married man. My husband and I are about to leave for a vacation together! Rupert Everett and I kissed like friends, that's all."
Mr. Lucas wasn't worried about his husband catching wind of the gossip ("He only reads the 'New York Times' and the financial pages") and was more irked about the other bold-faced name linked to him in the gossip item. He groaned, "I cannot believe they compared me to Heidi Fleiss. She went to jail. I run my own very successful company. I pay a lot in taxes and I am not doing anything illegal that would put me in jail. We are two very different people and have two very different careers. Please make sure you mention that."
One more item: I've written recently about various gay industryites being tapped for magazine layouts. Well, get ready for another major magazine article and fashion spread coming down the pike that will feature Mr. Lucas and a whole bunch of his exclusive performers.
UN FILM DE LUCIANO
Painfully handsome South American model Luciano Haas recently made his directorial debut. "I wrote the script, cast the models, [hired] a great professional [behind] the camera and confirmed the location," he told me. "And on May 15th and 16th I [shot] my first film!" Congrats!
Mr. Haas doesn't have North American distribution yet. "There is a new gay studio in Buenos Aires," he explained. "They knew about me and they were very interested in hiring me because of my experience in the U.S. market. The [problem] was the salary was too low. Then an American director who usually shoots in Brazil contacted me last January. He was going to shoot in Sao Paolo and he told me because of my experience I would be a great assistant for him [as] I also speak Portuguese. When we talked about my salary, I was disappointed. He [wanted] to pay me as a local. Crazy!"
Crazy, indeed! Our Mr. Haas certainly kept his eyes and ears open during his forays into American porn, eh? After a production meeting last year with Michael Lucas in Buenos Aires, Mr. Haas decided there was enough interest out there for him to helm his own pictures. He's in the teeth of post-production as we speak and promised to provide regular updates.
BITS AND BOBS
As I've revealed in this space, dragstress RuPaul corralled Owen Hawk, Michael Lucas and Gus Mattox for cameos in her indie film "Starrbooty: Reloaded." Now comes news that she and Colton Ford have written and will perform a duet. No word on a release...
Directrix Chi Chi LaRue has launched a new weekly club night titled "Dirty Deeds" at FuBar in West Hollywood. Opening night is Wednesday, May 31st with Ms. LaRue spinning records and Rascal Exclusive ingenue Claudio Martin (DECEIVED and STONE FOX) appearing as a special guest. "Dirty Deeds" will run every Wednesday indefinitely. FuBarLA.com is the club website...
Although quasi-retired from the skin trade, performer Bret Wolfe tells me he and Michael Brandon will cohost the Official Grabby Awards Recovery Brunch on Sunday, May 28th in Chicago at the North End Bar. "We will have stars from all the major studios appearing," he tells me. "They will be presenting their new releases and proceeds from the raffles will be donated to the Test Positive Aware Network."
Mr. Wolfe will also attend the Grabby Awards representing Jet Set and WET PALMS 7-9, which is up for a few trophies. And the indie film "Long Term Relationship" in which Mr. Wolfe is featured will have its world premiere at Newfest 2006, the New York LGBT Film Festival. Two screenings are set for June 2nd and 3rd. "I play a sort of foil to the main relationship in the movie," he says, "a good guy at heart but thinks a bit too much with his cock!" The official movie website is GuesthouseFilms.com, while the Newfest is at NewFestival.org and all the Grabby Awards hoopla is housed at Grabbys.com...
Gay porn's reigning power couple, Jason Hawke and Jeremy Jordan, announced an amicable split after nearly six years of cohabitation. "People only gave us a week when we first met but we beat the odds and we're really proud of our relationship's longevity," he told JasonCurious.com. "We also think it's really good for others in the industry to have seen us and realize that a long-term gay relationship is possible."
Mr. Hawke says that he and Mr. Jordan remain friendly and continue to shoot exclusive hardcore content for JasonHawkeXXX.com. (Mr. Jordan's website is forthcoming.) "We had a blast, we're both moving on and we are both looking forward to a new future," he reveals. I've worked with Jason Hawke a couple times and a nicer guy you couldn't find in GayPornLand (apart from perhaps Jeremy Jordan.) I'm happy the pair have dissolved their relationship peacefully and wish them both the best.
On the opposite end of the relationship spectrum, my good pal Caleb Carter recently broke the news that he is engaged! Congratulations! The gent who made an honest man out of him is newcomer Tyler Thomas of FraternityGuys.com fame (a film or two are in the pipeline). "I originally just wanted to mind-fuck him because I just saw Basic Instinct 2 and I was in this whole Catherine Tramell phase," Mr. Carter tells me. "But somehow it backfired and I fell in love." When Mr. Carter took Mr. Thomas home to meet the folks, the latter dropped down on one knee and proposed.
The boys promise to have a nice, long engagement. "He won't buy me the $78,000 ring I want," Mr. Carter jokes, "but otherwise he's the most amazing man I've ever met. And my family loves him! And, oh my fucking god, is he HUNG!" Ah, young love...

The Adams Report by JC Adams
May 15 - 21, 2006
This week in the "Adams Report by JC Adams" we attend a screening of BONESAW for Adonis Pictures, visit the set of Falcon's THE VELVET MAFIA (where we landed a few sizzling scoops) and find out what's next for Mike Branson's film career. Elsewhere, the Old Media takes note of porn's trendsetting ways and we preview a clutch of new flicks including a jaw-dropping fisting epic from Dark Alley Media. On with the show!
This past weekend I drove out to Chatsworth and motored up into the arid canyons to a lovely, sprawling mansion amid the rocks where I spent the morning and afternoon with the cast and crew of Falcon's THE VELVET MAFIA two-parter, the studio's big-budget epic for the year. Chris Steele directs this tale of two warring porn studios; Paul Barresi (as "Mason Avalon") heads up one company, while Chi Chi LaRue (as "Warren Starr") owns the other.
The cast of 18 (!) includes Roman Heart, Chad Hunt, Antonio Madiera, Omer, Erik Rhodes, Jason Ridge, Matthew Rush and Derrick Vinyard. Various newbies turn up, among them Cory Bolton, Tommy Blade, Brock Penn and Antonio Roca. And here's a scoop (well, three scoops): A trio of popular studs who have been away from the scene for years mount a comeback: Trent Atkins, Richie Fine and Talvin DeMachio. All three look as good as they ever did. One of the big stars of the picture is none other than humpy pup Brent Corrigan, whose contentious legal battles with Cobra Studio over the past year include several flicks allegedly filmed when he was underage. He's definitely legal now…!
Tune in next week for a longer report. But check this out: Mr. Steele's mother wrote the script! No kidding! How many moms get to say they wrote a gay porn script for their son to direct?
BONESAW-ED
My week began with a trip to Drew Warner's Tango Blues studio in Hollywood for a screening of Adonis Pictures' BONESAW. This X-rated spin on the "Saw" horror films was written and directed by Jett Blakk. Despite a few campy moments it is not a sex comedy. Bobby Williams plays a young buck trapped inside a lethal game in which he must solve a series of sexually explicit puzzles to move to the next level or die a horrible death. He is taunted along the way by a mysterious figure in a mask and cowl who seems to know Mr. Williams personally...
Mr. Blakk cut together a thirty-minute version of the film for the screening, which included a few dozen folks including cast member Brett Matthews, Adonis producer Jeremy Spencer, Adonis Exclusive Damon Phoenix and boyfriend, Jacob Slader, reviewer Mickey Skee with producer John Rex, makeup artist Kensington Stone, and Mr. Warner with boyfriend Zackary Pierce, who served as bartender for the party afterwards and wore only boots and a pair of mesh underwear that showed off his perfectly plump, gravity-defying ass.
I visited the North Hollywood set of the film a few months back on the day when French hottie Mark Hansford was set to tackle Jason Tiya's giant python. Rob Romoni was also there for some B-roll footage. Gotta say, although Mr. Hansford told me he considers himself straight, he wolfs down Mr. Tiya's cock and takes virtually all of it up his tight little butt. And he looks damned good on camera, although his cute Gallic accent is impenetrable. (More details visit AdonisPictures.com and keep reading for more on the studio at the end of this column.)
PORN TRENDSETTING
Another Old Media article, this time on the Associated Press newswire, looks down its nose and takes note of the adult industry's traditional embrace of new technologies. "Hollywood has been tiptoeing its way toward letting consumers buy a movie online, burn it onto a DVD and watch it on a living room TV," the article reads. "While the studios hesitate, the adult film industry is taking the leap."
The thrust (ha-ha) of the story is the CinemaNow service, which straight colossus Vivid Entertainment will use to allow customers to burn DVDs "that will play on any screen, not just a computer...(i)t's another first for adult film companies that pioneered the home video market and rushed to the (i)nternet when Hollywood studios still saw it as a threat." Indeed! This is old news to porn aficionados but it's still good to see the Old Media take note.
But here's a bit of business regarding CinemaNow that isn't widely known: The service is "partly owned by the film studio Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., Microsoft Corp., Cisco Systems Inc. and Blockbuster Inc." Uh-huh, there ya go, kids. You want to know why the Republican administration's periodic attacks on the porno biz will never go anywhere? That's why.
BRANSON AND HEART
Last week's update on the current whereabouts of Falcon legend Mike Branson generated more fan mail and more hits to our website than anything in months. The guy clearly still has a large and devoted fan base. Unfortunately, the information I conveyed in last week's column is pretty much everything I've got right now. But I've asked for more details so cross your fingers.
In any case, Falcon's Promotions and Events Manager, Troy Prickett, wrote in soon after the column went live. "What bizarre timing," he said. "We will be releasing a BEST OF MIKE BRANSON as part of our Falcon Anthology Series on May 29th!" Keep an eye on FalconStudios.com for updates.
The only item that generated more reader response this year was my mention of a Roman Heart interview conducted the morning after he won Best Newcomer at the GAYVN Awards in March. I've been sitting on that interview but you guys are sure anxious to read it, so I'll have to speed up the plans I had for our chat. In the meantime, Mr. Prickett tells me that Mr. Heart will be this year's "Hot Porn Star" in "Out" magazine's annual "Hot" issue. (Last year it was Wilifred Knight, who was snagged soon afterwards for a cameo in Madonna's "Sorry" music video.)
NEW RELEASE DESK
Monster Bang Video and Raging Stallion Studios have ASS QUEST PART ONE on tap (pun intended) directed by Michael Brandon and featuring RSS Exclusives Justin Christopher and Remy Delaine. Per the press release, the film "takes you into the mystic world of an underground urban sex club!" Costars include Rick Gonzales, criminally underrated in my opinion and a horny little fucker whose cock is almost as long as he is, Troy Punk, Gabriel Sinclair and reliable sexpig Carlos Morales paired with Tamas Eszterhazyand Owen Hawk. However, in a shocking (shocking, I say!) change of pace, Mr. Morales tops both of his costars before they turn the tables and ride his muscular globes all the way home. Go to MonsterBang.com, RagingStallion.com and/or RearStable.com for details.
Arena Entertainment has another from director Stephane Berry's Berry Productions. THE FRENCH CONNECTION features a passel of hotties from Sao Paolo. Kidding. They're from France, of course. "Seven French men threesomes and even a six-man orgy!" boasts the press release, and who am I to argue? Director Berry has been doing some good work lately. He's one to watch. StephaneBerry.com has the scoop.
Lucas Entertainment's ENCOUNTERS: THE POINT OF NO RETURN boasts the first scene directed by longtime reviewer Vincent Lambert, as I exclusively revealed here in this space back in March. Two additional scenes were directed by Tony DiMarco and the last by DiMarco and Michael Lucas. (The first ENCOUNTERS boasts a scene directed by RuPaul in exchange for Mr. Lucas appearing in the dragstress' upcoming indie film "Starrbooty: Reloaded," which also features Owen Hawk and Gus Mattox). Chad Hunt, Michael Lucas and Wilson Vasquez topline together with Cory Cade, Ricardo Correa, Milan Gamiani, Jack McCarthy, Tony Ryder and Adam Young. The new ENCOUNTERS series replaces the studio's long-running FIRE ISLAND CRUISING series, which concludes this year. LucasEntertainment.com had more information.
Last up this week is Dark Alley Media's FISTING PUNKS. Billed as one of the "ruffest, nastiest and sexually charged fisting movies to date," the flick features director Matthias Von Fistenberg and Owen Hawk (debuting as a fisting top) in the first scene alongside Roger Beaumont, Jake Corwin, Jason Dean and Duke Rivers. It's wild stuff with rivers of piss, punch-fucking and trash talk. And that's just the first of two long scenes. The second brings back Von Fistenberg with the pig-tastic Bud in his "home studio" in Los Angeles. (You've seen pics of Bud, a stocky fireplug of a guy inked head-to-toe in colorful tattoos.) Alarmingly enormous dildos come into play here. Ouch. By the way, congrats to the studio for snagging a lucrative distribution deal with buzzworthy Pulse Distribution (home to Falcon Studios). DarkAlleyMedia.com is the official website.
DEPT. OF SELF PROMOTION
The cover of the current issue of "XXX Showcase" magazine features Andy Kirra and newbie Damon Phoenix, both of whom are Adonis Pictures Exclusives and star (alongside Trevor Knight, who co-wrote the script) in INN OVER HIS HEAD. Another Adonis picture, STAR CROSSED headlining Mr. Kirra, is also featured in this issue. And watch for the next edition of "XXX Showcase" spotlighting Jean Franko and Julian Vincenzo from LOVE AND LUST for Lucas Kazan Productions and Sarava Productions. Plus, erotic animator Joe Phillips' XXX-rated superhero epic STONEWALL & RIOT also gets a layout. Look for the mags in your friendly neighborhood porn emporium.
Porn Star Birthdays for May 15 through May 21: Edmundo Castro, Rossi Fabab, Tony Idol, Josh Kole, Patrik Levaj, Andreas Montero, Jean Rivera (May 15); Joey Acioli, Rick Allen, Mark Andrews, Steve 'Titpig' Hurley, Chase Hunter, Caleb Parker, Jeff Perez, Luis Rodrigues, Matt Summers (May 16); Morgan Allen, Jeff Austin, Tyson Cane, Ted Colunga, Jake Russell (May 17); Rod Barrett, Glenn Chambers, J.R. Montes, Jorge Rivera, Breck Stewart, George Vidanov, Justin Wells (May 18); Andrew Addams, Tamas Iszmos, Milos Miroslav, Spike, Matt West (May 19); Derrick Baldwin, Steve O'Donnell, Tiger Tyson (May 20); Tim Atwood, Mike Conway, Gino Francesco, Alberto Landi, Mitch Sander, Ray Stone, Bret Wolfe (May 21).

The Adams Report by J.C. Adams
May 8 - 14, 2006
Can you believe it's May already? What the hell happened to the year? I can't be the only one feeling some whiplash here. Anyway, this week in the "Adams Report" our buffet of news and gossip from GayPornLand includes an interview with a producer of the already controversial European Gay Porn Awards -- and they haven't even put on a show yet! We've also got an update on legend Mike Branson, another male reality star's gay porn past is uncovered, and Jakson Robinson of CocoDorm.com speaks out about the charges leveled against his site by the "Chicago Free Press." Onward and upward!
PAGING MIKE BRANSON
This past week I landed a hot scoop when I was able to track down the peerless Mike Branson, the eternal star whose awesomely buffed physique, baseball bat of a cock and chiseled features have earned him a place in the gay porn firmament thanks to a spectacular run of videos for Falcon Studios. He made only nine movies between 1997 and 1999 (MANHANDLERS, THE FRESHMEN, THE CHOSEN, BASIC PLUMBING 2…they're all amazing). Then he left and he hasn't been heard from since. Until now! He's living "in the southeast," and that's all we're getting on location because he wants to protect his privacy. Mr. Branson took his porn money, put himself through college, earned an engineering degree and he "has no interest in getting in front of the camera again." He is "completely done with moviemaking" and very happy with how his life turned out after his porno career. As much as I'd love to have Mr. Branson's many gifts on display in a new porn flick, it's nice to know he's happy and living a good life.
COCODORM SPEAKS OUT
In the last column I wrote about serious charges leveled against CocoDorm.com by the "Chicago Free Press" in an article that alleged the spread of HIV and other STDs to the local community by models from the website who had allegedly performed without condoms. The Chicago Department of Public Health delivered a cease-and-desist order on April 20th to the apartment out of which CocoDorm.com had been operating.
Jakson Robinson, the site's owner, refuted those charges to the "Chicago Free Press," as I wrote last week. "There's no one HIV-positive in our dorm [and the] models also engage in safe sexual practices," he said and countered with the claim that the city shut down his website because he did not have the proper business licenses.
This week Mr. Robinson released a press release titled "CocoDorm Survives After Natural and Political Attacks." In the release Mr. Robinson announced that CocoDorm closed March 31st when "strong winds damaged the facade of the building that housed it. The Dorm temporarily relocated to another building in the city of Chicago, but will be making a permanent move to a new location outside of the city. Normal operations will resume just in time for the summer."
Mr. Robinson alleges the "Chicago Free Press" has a "history of reporting negative stories against the black gay community" and described their report linking the spread of STDs to some of the site's models as "slanderous and defamatory." He says all CocoDorm models are tested for STDs and there is no proof any of them has contracted HIV while under contract at the Dorm. Stay tuned for further developments.
"DETAILS" AND DINK
The new issue of "Details" magazine (Matt Dillon on the cover) has an article on the gay porn scandal that has embroiled the 82nd Airborne in North Carolina, which also happens to be the home of director Dink Flamingo's ActiveDuty.com. So far two of the hapless paratroopers from the 82nd who were spotted on Active Duty have pleaded guilty and will face several months in prison among other charges. (As far as I'm aware, the offer from 1 Distribution and Tipo Sesso to employ any of these men, once the scandal fallout subsides, is still good.)
The "Details" article is fine although it's as much about the Active Duty sex scandal as it is about the writer, Mark Simpson. Several years ago he was observing Mr. Flamingo work when allowed himself to be enticed into joining the action being filmed. (That movie is CALL OF DUTY and, thanks to a tip from my pals at Fleshbot.com, I can reveal it's available online at MalePayPerView.com. You're welcome.) If Mr. Simpson's name rings any bells it's probably because he's the guy who coined the term "metrosexual."
PORN MODEL IS "UNAN1MOUS"
This past week internet wags sniffed out another reality-tv hunk with a porno past. Hottie Jonathan of Fox's "Uan1mous" was identified as popular model "Tino" from a RandyBlue.com stint three years ago. Jonathan is tagged in his Fox bio as a "self-described womanizer" but nevertheless he gave quite a show on Randy Blue. You can find more of him at Fleshbot.com for starters. Aren't you surprised this hasn't happened more often?
EURO GAY PORN AWARDS SCOTCHED?
The nascent Euro Gay Porn Awards (EGPA) are barely off the ground and they're already facing a rebellion from the Stateside gay biz. A high-level porn exec told me, under the condition of anonymity, that "no one is going to take part in these awards. I've also talked to several larger [European Union] distributors, and they also do not want to participate."
So what's the rumpus? Claims my source, "At first everyone thought they sounded like a good idea, until the word got out regarding who was really behind them. It appears that some of the EU bareback producers were secretly behind this and wanted to include several bareback categories to try and promote their content. Once it was revealed that the people behind the awards were really producers themselves, we all opted out of being involved. An awards show being run by the producers being awarded is a little disingenuous at best."
I did some calling around and my source isn't the only studio planning to ignore the EGPA; another major production company and one prominent director have personally told me they will not take part in any way. A main point of contention is that Best Bareback Video category (there's only one such award so far). The official website for the show is EuropeanGayPornAwards.com.
Show producer Marc Cram agreed to address some of the stated concerns. About the bareback category, "(w)e thought long and hard about this issue, but in the end we decided that it was not our place to be subject to a politically correct agenda or to decide whether barebacking is right or wrong," he told me. "At the end of the day, [it is up to] individuals to decide. The fact of the matter is that bareback movies do exist and that they represent, rightly or wrongly, a major sector of the market."
Further, Mr Cram says, the "whole premise" of the EGPA is that "they reflect the reality of gay porn in the early 21st Century. We are not here to judge, condone or condemn. It is simply our intention to acknowledge the reality of the industry, from vanilla right through to fetish." Mr. Cram notes that "legality is our only determining factor" and the "general gay public" will be the ultimate arbiter as to which films to award.
Another issue raised by American porn studios has to do with the sponsoring company or companies behind the EGPA; specifically, Eurocreme. Mr. Cram acknowledges that Eurocreme is sponsoring the show. He identifies them as "Europe's leading gay porn studio" and says they are allowing the EGPA to use their internet domains to "get this project off the ground." But he denies that Eurocreme "or any of their subsidiaries" will have any pull with how nominations or winners are determined.
In an earlier conversation, Mr. Cram told me the inspiration behind the EGPA "came from the fact that Europe is seriously lagging behind the States on the gay porn awards front. Not for much longer, I may add." He believes the European skin trade is on the rise and "at a time when U.S. gay porn is finding itself increasingly straightjacketed by the American administration. We're taking advantage of these circumstances to promote gay porn on this side of the Atlantic."
Mr. Cram also states a desire to create a kudocast that he feels gives a more honest reflection of the "ordinary gay man" than current shows like the "Adult Video News" GAYVN Awards and the "Gay Chicago Magazine" Grabby Awards, not to mention various international porn shows that feature gay categories. The EGPA would be "more democratic and less open to abuse. Whether this is possible remains very much to be seen, but our heart is very much in the right place and we are determined to uphold as great an egalitarian outlook as possible." He notes, "(c)ertain parties have already declared that it isn't possible. I guess the proof of the pudding will be very much in the eating."
Porn Star Birthdays for May 8 through May 14: Carlo Cox, Maxx Diesel, Marcio Fonseca, Logan Grey, Joey James, Daxter Ryan, Lee Scott, Dillon Young (May 8); Angelo Bestiamo, Brad Hunter, Todd Maxwell, John Roberts, Ken Spencer (May 9); Justin Douglas, Hugo Griego, David Hunter, Dennis Lee, Marco Montana, Victor Racek (May 10); Jett Allen, Ferenc Botos, Randy Mixer, Guillermo Pastores, Alexander Strauss (May 11); Jeff Allen, Marcelo Reeves, Shaka Z. The Adams Report by J.C. Adams
May 1 - 7, 2006
This week we've got details on the stunning acquisition of All Worlds Video by rival studio Channel 1 Releasing. Also, Chad Savage quits the biz (again), Ray Dragon lands a new gig and the late Austin Black's life is celebrated. Plus, news about the surprising shutdown of CocoDorm.com by Chicago health department officials. Come on in, the water's fine!
CHANNEL 1 ACQUIRES AWV
So the gigantor news this week was the revelation that distributor Channel 1 Releasing has purchased rival studio All Worlds Video. Although rumors had begun to surface here and there, news of the acquisition caught pretty much everyone by surprise along the lines of how the merger of UPN and The WB into a new TV network knocked everyone in Hollywood sideways earlier this year.
The acquisition was announced on GAYVN.com which notes that Channel 1 Releasing is now "the largest gay-owned and -operated gay-adult entertainment company in the world." Channel 1 Releasing was formed in 1998 and is the home of Chi Chi LaRue's Rascal Video, as well as LiveandRaw.com. All Worlds Video was founded in 1985 by Rick Ford who will now step back from the daily operations of the studio, although "he will continue to be a strong influence in the All Worlds Video line with the Dirk Yates titles and online with DirkYatesLive.com."
I've got an interview with Rick Ford lined up and spoke with Ms. LaRue at length about the news. Here's a taste: The acquisition has been "in the works for about six months," Ms. LaRue says. "What Rick Ford was looking for was someone that was gonna take his company and keep the integrity of All Worlds and not demolish or diminish or get rid of the All Worlds name. I believe that All Worlds is a huge part of the gay adult business. It's a huge company. Nothing can beat Dirk Yates."
The absorption of All Worlds Video into Channel 1 Releasing continues a dramatic shakeup of the gay porn landscape. It was only a few months ago that industry founders Scott Masters and John Travis sold off their Studio 2000 (although they remain with the company). Director/producers Jack Fritscher and Bob Wingate last year closed down Palm Drive Video and Bound & Gagged Video, respectively, and MSR Videos was dissolved following founder Tony Alizzi's death and the sale of their catalog of titles to Titan Media. What's next?
COCODORM.COM: SHUT DOWN
The "Chicago Free Press" newspaper has a late-breaking story headlined as follows: "Local Gay Internet Site Believed Linked to the Spread of HIV/STDs." That "local site" was CocoDorm.com, which operated out of an apartment in Lakeview. A cease-and-desist order was delivered on April 20th by the Chicago Department of Public Health to the private residence where various models for CocoDorm.com were filmed for broadcast on the internet. Per the article, "concerns were raised about cases of HIV and other STDs tied to the site's models" following "credible evidence [that the models] were engaging in unsafe sex practices and were spreading HIV, syphilis and gonorrhea through contact with individuals outside the business."
At press time CocoDorm.com was still live. The site's owner, Jakson Robinson, denied any charges to the "Chicago Free Press" in a phone interview. "There's no one HIV-positive in our dorm, so that's untrue. The models also engage in safe sexual practices." He contends the city shut down the website because he did not have the proper business licenses. The article also details "unusual labor contracts" for the CocoDorm.com models which "bordered on illegal servitude" according to the paper's source. Robinson is now looking for a new location outside Chicago to reopen the site. Stay tuned on how this will all shake out.
CHAD SAVAGE: SAYONARA
The bodaciously sexy Chad Savage has apparently bid farewell to the porno biz for the second time. He's taken his rock-hard abs, stiff poker, pillowy bum and chiseled chin to greener pastures, says an industry insider. Hopefully someone is staying in touch with the handsome pup, an All Worlds Video Exclusive, now that the studio is under the Channel 1 Releasing umbrella and studio founder Rick Ford is stepping back from the spotlight. Mr. Savage racked up a handful of excellent flicks from 1998-2002 and then quit, returning three years later looking better than ever. His latest tour of duty includes CAPTURED, DESPERATE HUSBANDS, LITTLE BROTHER'S BIG SECRET and a few others, plus the co-lead in WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACKS 2. I gotta say, the sight of Marcos Pirelli hungrily diving into Mr. Savage's plush, muscular globes in the middle of a pool in CAPTURED (a threeway with Kevin Brown) is one of my favorite porn moments from the past year.
TITAN TO DRAGON: WELCOME
Legendary performer and director Ray Dragon has been snapped up by Titan Media and will helm their ManPlay line. The first will be BOOT CAMP: MANPLAY 24 (co-directed with Brian Mills) for release in the U.S. and Europe in late June.
Mr. Dragon's career stretches back sixteen years and includes a famed stint with COLT Studio back in the day, then a long retirement from the biz (during which he had his own clothing stores, remember?) He founded Dragon Media in 2001 and then returned to performing the following year with Titan's GORGE. He's also steadily racking up credits behind the scenes as a cameraman; I worked with him on a series of flicks for MSR Videos, including HELL ROOM (in which he has a nonsex cameo as the sinister "Gatekeeper"), and we really hit it off. During the 2005 Folsom Street festivities in San Francisco, it was utterly charming to watch newly hatched gaybois and their daddy-husbands approach Mr. Dragon with reverence and tell him how much they loved his work. TitanMen.com has the specifics on the hire. And, by the way, Mr. Dragon has just published a book of his photography titled "Real Men" available at RayDragon.com.
RIP: AUSTIN BLACK
The performer Austin Black passed away unexpectedly March 9th (the exact cause is being kept under wraps but I'm told it was complications related to liver cancer), and a memorial service celebrating him was held Monday, April 24th at the Metropolitan Community Church in West Hollywood. He was 43 years old. It was a lovely, sweet service attended by his sister and a small group of Mr. Black's friends and colleagues. Among them were performers Randy Summers, Cameron Cruise and Anthony DeAngelo, all of whom were close with Mr. Black. Other industry colleagues remembering him were performer/editor Andrew Addams, Video 10's Freddie Bercovitz and performer Vince Harrington (a/k/a dragstress Lana Luster).
One friend described how Austin Black, on location for a project, came upon a spider in the back yard and took the time to point it out and examine it closely. "No one else would have done that but Austin," the friend recalled. "No one else would have even noticed the spider." Randy Summers laughingly described Mr. Black as "an arguer. You could tell him something was beige and he'd spend three hours arguing with you that it was brown." Mr. Black's sister told me she was touched that his industry colleagues took the time to publicly memorialize him. It was clear during the brief service that he will be missed and fondly remembered.

MIDWEEK INDUSTRY UPDATES: 05/03/06
Here's a sampling of the latest news and gossip in GayPornLand this week:
EURO GAY PORN AWARDS SCOTCHED?
The nascent Euro Gay Porn Awards are barely off the ground and they're already facing a rebellion from the Stateside gay biz. A high-level porn exec tells me, "No one is going to take part in these awards.
I did some calling around and my source isn't the only studio planning to ignore the Euro Gay Porn Awards; another major production company and one prominent director have personally told me they will not take part in any way.
I've got an interview with one of the show producers coming up in next week's column and we'll all have a chance to hear their side of things. In the meantime, yet another awards show located in the EU is in the planning stages. Do ya need any more evidence as to the explosion of the Old World as a market for all things porn?
MIKE BRANSON: NO MORE PORN, THANKS
I landed a hot scoop this week when I was able to track down the peerless Mike Branson, the eternal star whose awesomely buffed physique, baseball bat of a cock and chiseled features have earned him a place in the gay porn firmament thanks to a spectacular run of videos for Falcon Studios. Mr. Branson took his porn money, put himself through college, earned an engineering degree and he "has no interest in getting in front of the camera again." He's "completely done with moviemaking" and very happy with how his life turned out after his porno career. As much as I'd love to have Mr. Branson's many gifts on display in a new porn flick, it's nice to know he's happy and living a good life.
"DETAILS" AND DINK FLAMINGO
The new issue of "Details" magazine (Matt Dillon on the cover) has an article on the gay porn scandal that has embroiled the 82nd Airborne in North Carolina, which also happens to be the home of director Dink Flamingo’s ActiveDuty.com. So far two of the hapless paratroopers from the 82nd who were spotted on ActiveDuty.com have pleaded guilty and will face several months in prison among other charges. (As far as I'm aware, the offer from 1 Distribution and Tipo Sesso to employ any of these men, once the scandal fallout subsides, is still good.)
The "Details" article is fine although it’s as much about the Active Duty sex scandal as it is about the writer, Mark Simpson.
